When you are pregnant

Once your pregnancy has been confirmed and you have chosen to see Dr Varughese as your obstetrician, your GP sends a referral letter. Our team will contact you with an appointment. The first visit is generally timed to happen around 10 to 12 weeks of the pregnancy (earlier or later than this for some women).

At your first visit please bring:

  • Your referral
  • Any reports of investigations your GP may have undertaken in this pregnancy
  • Details of any previous pregnancies and deliveries.

Your first pregnancy visit usually takes longer than your subsequent visits. On average, a first pregnancy visit will take from 45 to 60 minutes.

We welcome both partners to attend. At the first visit, Dr Varughese takes a detailed history and performs a dating ultrasound, if one has not been already done. You may also be given forms for any missing test.

At this visit Dr Varughese discusses a rough plan for this pregnancy. You are encouraged to ask questions and voice any concerns you have.

Dr Varughese offers the services of midwife, Maria Ryan. Visits with Maria are offered after the first visit.
